The premise is simple. Moving art after a storm warning is issued means moving it in evacuation traffic. Moving it before — on a pre-arranged schedule, with enrolled clients who have committed storage and transport — means the work is already inland by the time evacuation orders go out. Charlotte sits approximately 250 miles inland from Charleston and Myrtle Beach, 400 miles from Miami, and well above the storm surge and sustained wind zones that affect coastal markets during a major hurricane. The S.A.F.E. facility stays climate-stable and operational during events that knock out power and HVAC to coastal storage facilities for days. How enrollment works. S.A.F.E. is a pre-season program. Clients enroll before June 1 each year and establish terms for emergency storage and transport in advance. When a storm is tracking toward the coast, enrolled clients are contacted for activation — before the storm is close enough to trigger evacuations.
